Talking about reducing the cost of books from the binding design
after processing, the manuscript with a low-pass filter in the expander usually needs to be designed by the designer before it leaves the factory. Designers must design the book according to its content, nature, total amount of graphics and text, and readers, and design a book that is popular with readers according to the principles of practicality, aesthetics and economy. Practical and beautiful biological polymerization requires a lot of oxygen. The relationship between concept and economy is both unified and contradictory. Designers need to comprehensively deal with it according to the characteristics of books. The cost of books is an important factor in the book market competition, which is concerned by the publishing department. This paper talks about how to reduce the cost of books from the perspective of binding design
in order to reduce the cost of books, designers need to be familiar with the type, specification, performance and price of paper materials, the calculation method of book cost and labor price, printing technology and operation process, so as to correctly select books in combination with specific book conditions, which not only reduces the cost, but also coordinates with the requirements of practicality and aesthetics
1. Reasonable selection of folio to reduce the cost of books
if the selection of folio is unreasonable, it will increase the side materials and reduce the effective utilization area of paper. Books with more short lines, such as horizontal poetry collections, use 32 folios, with many blanks in the incision and binding, and use more paper. If you use a long and narrow 36 folio, you can save paper. If the format is too small, there will be more loss of fold and smooth edge materials. In order to facilitate printing and packaging, try not to use or use less irregular folios, which can reduce the cost of printing and packaging
2. Determine the binding form and reasonably carry out the layout design.
the commonly used book binding forms include horse riding binding, flat binding, cable binding, binding, etc. Horse riding binding, cord binding and adhesive binding can design the left and right layout centers larger. If it is in the form of flat binding, the left and right layout center should be relatively small, because the binding opening of the flat binding book needs to occupy about 5mm
before using any experimental machine, everyone should fully understand the performance of the product and the fixture. When calculating the text manuscript, the size of the text font, the density between lines, the width of the blank around, the occupation of lines and blank lines of the title, etc. are all related to the cost of books. For example, a book is an ordinary 32 folio book, which was originally designed to be horizontally arranged with No. 5 characters and 26 characters on each side × 25 lines =650 words, 5/8 spaces between lines, 240000 words manuscript, a total of 370 rows; If it is changed to 26 words × 27 lines =702 words, with 1/2 spaces between lines, only 342 lines are needed; The difference between the two specifications is 28. In terms of edition number, paper, binding and other links, we may reduce the cost of books. This high-end products and key components have not yet reached the state of localization, which by no means means means that the denser the layout, the better. For example, children's books, the words should not be too small, and the line spacing should not be too narrow; It refers to that on the premise of adapting to the content of the manuscript and the audience, we should save paper materials as much as possible to reduce the cost of books. For another example, in some books with more chapters, if each chapter is arranged on another page, or on the other side, or in the form of continuous arrangement, the paper consumption and printing cost here are also very different. Therefore, when designing the layout, we should consider the nature, content and adaptation of books to the needs of readers, but also consider the problem of reducing the cost of books
when designing the artwork of the album, it is necessary to enlarge or reduce according to the size of the folio and the requirements of the artwork to determine the length and width of the artwork. In the design, the layout designer must understand the size range base specified in the book printing price standard for flat plate photographic color separation plate making. For example, 40 Kai, 14cm × 16cm; 20 Kai, 20cm × 22cm; 12 Kai, 27cm × 27cm, etc. For example, a color album is a large 16 folio book. Because the designer does not understand the size range base specified in the printing price standard for flat plate photographic color separation, 17cm is designed × 40 22.5cm pictures, 13cm × The 60 pictures with 16.5cm are beyond the size range specified in the flat plate photographic color separation plate making standard in the labor price standard. A small point with a length and width of 40 Kai and 20 Kai needs to pay an extra plate making fee of about 4000 yuan. Therefore, designers should understand the price standard of books and periodicals printing, and carefully design under the principle of not affecting the quality and effect of drawings, so as to try to reduce the cost of books
3. Reasonably determine the cover size and reduce the cost of books
when designing the cover, it should be designed according to the size of the finished book, the thickness of the spine and the size of the lip. When designing the size of the sliver, the sliver can be made slightly larger, mostly more than 30mm, without wasting paper and facilitating printing. However, some cover designers do not understand the paper specification, opening number and the performance of the printing machine. When designing the cover, they do not fix the size of the sliver randomly according to the opening number of the paper. After plate making, they often do not meet the requirements of the opening number of the paper specification, resulting in waste. Now most books need to be covered with film after the cover printing, which increases the cost of covering film
for example, a set of books is divided into upper and lower volumes, which is 850 × 1168 large 32 folio books, the upper and lower volumes are about 600 sides respectively, printed with 52g/m2 paper, the thickness of the spine is 22mm, the cover is offset printed, the upper and lower volumes are printed with 20000 pages respectively, and the cover is covered with film after printing. Since the designer does not know the size of the paper, the design flange is 65mm, so 787 is needed for such a large flange × 1092 1/6 paper printing, if the design is based on the number of paper openings, and the necking is designed to be 40mm, 787 can be used × 1092 1/8 paper printing. There is a difference of about 4000 yuan between the printing fees, paper and film pressing fees. It can be seen that when designing the cover, the binding designer should understand the paper specification and opening number; In the cover design, try to reduce the cost of books to avoid unnecessary economic losses
some covers and front and rear ring liners are designed to be relatively simple. Only a few spot colors can be printed, and the printing volume is not large. Copper zinc plates can be considered to be made during plate making. Printing can be done by plate machine. Because plate printing is a single sheet printing, flowers can be used, and residual paper can also be cut into small sheets for printing. This can improve the utilization of paper and reduce the cost of plate making and printing
4. Reasonably select binding materials to reduce the cost of books
when selecting materials for hardcover cover covers, we should control the use of leather, cotton, hemp, silk, wool and other fabrics, and try to use tough paper, lacquer paper or lacquer cloth instead. Except for special needs, we should try to avoid using real gold foil as hot stamping materials, and can use electrochemical aluminum, color chips and so on to reduce the cost of books. More...
